So, yeah Anime Matsuri was this past weekend, and I'm gonna write everything I can remember about it, so get ready for a long one. I stayed at Jason's house friday night, and we left from there in the morning with Wendal and Kobe, all of us in my car. We barely managed to fit all the luggage in because my scythe and sword are so freakin big. We stopped and got some strawberries from one of those road-side farmer people on the way there, which were awesome. We got to the hotel at about 2. The place it's in is called the Woodlands, and it's a really ritzy little area. It's basically this compilation of 2 malls, a convention center and a hotel by a waterway. There are gorgeous fountains and lots of nice scenery. It's definitely the fanciest con setting I've ever been to. This is only Matsuri's second year, and it wasn't quite as big as I expected, but it was still a lot of fun. So, I got changed into my Allen outfit and we headed out. I guess I'll just hit the highlights. I got 3 Higurashi figures: Rena in her white dress, Mion and Satoko. I also got 2 little Code Geass figures(Lelouch and the Chinese guy Li Xingke), som epins from artist alley and the fourth volume of the Galaxy Angel manga. Jason's birthday was sunday, so I got him one of the Souleater figures and the Code Geass artbook. I cosplayed Haseo and Allen, both of which were received very well. Allen got more fangirl glomps, but Haseo got more pictures taken. Both were very troublesome to wear, and I'm sure I irritated the crap out of my friends by complaining about them way too much >< I only had one arm as Allen, and the sword was pretty heavy. It was also very hot under the fluffy coat. Haseo's spine was choking me, even worse than usual until I put a peice of foam under it, then it was slightly better. Haseo's armor is so bulky, though, so I was constantly apologizing to people for hitting them. On Friday I went to the D.Gray-man photoshoot. There were only three of us-me as Allen, a Lenalee and a Kanda, both of which had excellent costumes. The photographer was very skilled too, and I finally found the link to the gallery on wednesday: www.flickr.com/photos/mike_boike/sets/72157616698734681/ My Friday took a horribly negative turn when Timcanpy fell off my shoulder somewhere in the convention area and i lost him. It really made me sad because it took me a long time to make him, and I really loved the little guy. So I'll have to make a new one for A-kon. But, on Friday night we were walking back into the hotel Lobby and Jason pointed out that the guy at the check-in desk looked like Quinton Flynn. So I went back out the door and peered around the corner like a creepy stalker to see him, and it really did look like him. I wasn't positive if it was him at the time, but I found out later that it really was, so I wish I had said hi to him. We ate at the mall on Friday, but didn't get to look around very much. Calum got there Friday night. I was too tired to go to the rave that night, so I went to bed. Saturday morning I got into my Haseo costume and we went to Crispin Freeman's Q&A session. So, here's my take on Crispin Freeman. He is very good at what he does, and he sort of knows it. He's got just a little bit of an arrogance to him. He seems a bit detached from the average fan, which I'm sure is partly due to him being so insanely popular. The line for his autograph session was stupid/long. We were actually pretty close to the front, which means it only took us like 45 min. to get an autograph. There were people there for about 3 hours. It must really suck to sit at a table and sign stuff for three hours, so I can't blame the guy for being a little like "sigh" when he sees swarms of fans. But it was dumb cause they originally set the autograph line up in the Q&A room, which was upstairs. Then they moved us (yeah, they moved an autograph line without messing up the order*sarcasm*) down the escalator to the dealers room, then they promptly turned us around and moved us outside the dealers room to an area next to it. The problem with this is that there are tons of people going in and out of the dealers room, so the line broke up because people didn't know where the rest of line was. So it turned into a big mess, but eventually we got our stuff signed. I got a nice glossy picture of Touga signed: www.ohtori.nu/galerie/d/25990-2/Movie_Artwork_06.png He said the picture was gorgeous, and that Touga was great. I agreed and that was the end of that. Hooray Crispin Freeman. Oh, and while we were in line for his autograph I spotted a Machika(like from Immortal Rain!) in the line! I said hello to her and gave her a hug(the only person((other than Quinton Flynn)) whom I asked for a hug from). After that the same guy that did the DGrayman shoot took me outside to get some pics of my Haseo costume. I haven't found the link for those yet, so I assume he'll upload them soon. Then I think I wandered around some. I kept getting stopped every 3 steps for pics, which is always fun, although I think most the people that took pictures didn't actually know who I was cosplaying, they just thought it looked cool. I had someone ask me if I was a dragon oO? Through the weekend I has several people recognize me from other cons. While I was Allen, I had a couple of people recognize me as Allen from Oni-con, which is kinda odd/cool to me cause I really didn't think that costume was memorable. I had a couple of people recognize my Haseo from Mechacon too. The really weird one was that one guy said "Were you Yuna at A-kon?", which is really weird to me cause I only wore that costume for like 4 hours on Sunday at A-kon, and I was shocked that someone remebered it, much less recognized me in my Haseo outfit which is about as opposite as you can get. At about 4:30 or so on Saturday I went to Quinton Flynn's Q&A panel. Oh man, it was so awesome. He is such a nice guy. After Crispin Freeman's panel, I was really overjoyed at how much more -personable?(it that the right word?) Quinton is. He was just very interactive with the fans and the panel was a lot of fun. One thing I thought was really cool is that someone would ask something like "what's your favorite pokemon?" And he'd be like "hmmm...I don't really have a favorite one. What's yours?" And they would answer "Pikachu". And he'd say "Yeah, Pikachu's cool." It was very cool that he was so relaxed with the fans. I also learned a random fact about voice actors: they're not allowed to accept food gifts from people-so I'm really glad I didn't bring cookies like I was thinking about. After the panel they set up some of the Adventures in Anime stuff to sell that you could get signed (it the webisode series that he does) so I went to get some cash from the ATM. When I came back there were like 5 people besides him in the room, so I was like OO and was kinda trying to sneak into the back of the room, which is completely absurd when you're wearing huge black armor. So he saw me and was like "Are you trying to sneak in back there?" And I was like "yes..." And he said "Come on up here, there's no need to be nervous." So I came up to the front where they were talking for a bit and listened in. Nothing exciting there. Then I got my KHII game and went down to get it signed at his autograph session, It didn't take as long as Crispin Freeman's-no surprise- and I got a picture with him too(see previous post).(I screwed up the font size and don't know how to fix it ><) While in that line I got to talk to a girl about Battle Royale for a while, which was super fun. On the Quinton is awesome thread... On Sunday morning we went back into the Dealer's room, and he just inside the room. Jason went up to him and asked him(I couldn't hear him, I just assume thats what he said) if he could give me a hug. So he did, and he said "it's good to see you again". I did a super happy fangirl dance (after he left of course), and thought that was the culmination of my Quinton Flynn experience. WRONG. Later that day we saw him walking into the room for the closing ceremonies. So I creepy-stalker followed him into the room. Calum was with me, and he asked him if he could give me a hug. I said "No, no! I've already gotten one!" I'm absolutely paranoid about bothering people that I admire, so I'm content to just follow people around like a creepy stalker rather then actually talk to them and risk irritating them. He said "Well, you can have another one. I could use a hug right now." He gave me a hug and said "Thank you" like I had just done him a favor o.o I said thank you too and we went on our way. The super awesome(er) thing about Quinton Flynn is that he can do all kinds of different voices and impressions, but Axel and Reno sound very close to his natural voice. It's not that I only like him cause of his voice, but it was really cool to hear him say all that to me. So, I've turned into slightly less of a Crispin Freeman fangirl and a much bigger Quinton Flynn fangirl. Jason is all like *sigh* when I start talking about Quinton Flynn and get all starry-eyed. I'm sure he's very sick of hearing about how cool Quinton is. Anyway, we went to the Cheesecake Factory and got some awesome/expensive($7 a slice!) cheesecake. I got the strawberry, which I thought would be strawberry flavored cheesecake, but it was plain cheesecake with strawberries on it, which was still yummy. We went back to the mall Saturday night and actually looked around. There weren't that many interesting stores, but there was a cute pet store with adorable kitties in it, and I really wanted one T-T I went to the rave for a little tiny bit, but then I went back up to the room to fetch Calum and got into talking to him about stuff. Then I kinda fell asleep/unconcious. Jason told me later that he and Wendal had hung out in the hallway cause they werent sleepy. In this process they saw Crispin Freeman a few times and discovered that he was actually staying in the room next to ours! I wish I had known that earlier... We also made a friend on Saturday. She was cosplaying from Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles I think, and she got on the elevator with us and stuff. Her costume was cool, and I found her on cosplay.com monday, and asked if she was going to a-kon and she mesaged me saying she was, so I'll probably see her there and Yay! for new friends X3 This is her in the costume she was wearing: www.cosplay.com/photo/1983854/ I only took a very few picture while we were there, but I'll put them up soon. My overall comments on the con: the con was fun, I met some awesome people, the dealer's room was disappointing, but I got some cool Higurashi figures. That's it on Matsuri, but I'll make a seperate post about other stuff. omg, this post got way too long ><
